Saddleback Volunteer SpotlightVolunteer Spotlight“I love working behind the scenes as a cheerleader to help people achieve God’s purpose for their lives,” exclaimed Vicki Lucas, PowerPoint and sound board volunteer for Saddleback’s Class 301. “Before class even begins, I enjoy talking to and greeting people as they walk through the door.”

Vicki is no stranger to volunteer work at Saddleback Church.  For over 20 years now, she has worn many ministry hats.  One in particular, she recalls, was her involvement in the quilting ministry.  “Several years ago, I went on a mission trip to Kenya.  On this trip, we gave handmade quilts to women in prison.  The women were so sad and oppressed, even the prison guards.  But when we handed out quilts, they became so joyful.”

In addition to her behind-the-scenes work for Class 301, Vicki currently volunteers in the Knitting and Crocheting Ministry and leads a Women’s Small Group in her home.  She has a passion for women who are lonely and hurting, and she welcomes all who come her way.

Vicki explains, “Since I live in a condominium complex, there was a time I didn’t know where the ladies would park their cars when coming to Bible study.  So I asked God, ‘If you want me to nurture and care for women, please fix the parking situation,’ and after I walked through my neighborhood, asking people if we could use their driveways, God provided.”

Vicki has definitely taken to heart Rick Warren’s message about how a person’s immediate responsibility is in the pond God puts them in.  With that in mind, her love for Jesus is quite evident as she loves and serves everyone God puts in her life.

Her “life verse” is Proverbs 3:5-6.  It speaks of God’s faithful direction in our lives when we put our trust in Him, despite our lack of understanding of many things.
